A BMW Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) can be found stamped on your vehicle. You will always find your BMW VIN number on the driver-side front door jamb, or on the lower-left corner of the windshield. You will also find your BMW VIN number on your car registration, insurance card, and title. BMW Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is a unique 17 digit code used by BMW to identify each car sold. Every BMW will have the VIN number in at least two of the following locations.

To reduce the risk of confusion, VIN's never include the letters I/i, O/o and Q/q, which can easily be mistaken for the numbers 1 and 0. If you’re having trouble decoding your VIN, double-check that you haven’t misread any of the characters.

On The Windshield

Locate the VIN number in the bottom right corner of your windshield. Here is one place that you will find the VIN number on any BMW. This VIN number needs to be accessed from the outside.

On The Door Jamb

Open the driver's door and locate the sticker on the frame. Here you will find the VIN number of your BMW. This sticker also shows the month and year the BMW was manufactured, model, and even paint code.

Here is an example of a BMW VIN number.

Other Locations

  1. BMW is known to stamp the VIN number by the strut tower on the driver or passenger side.
  2. BMW prints the VIN number on a small sticker placed behind the license plate.
